31. EX. - PHANTOM III.

With the help of Sr. we have got the parts for the above Car through the Customs and received them this morning, less the Mandrill and Extractor Tool. These are being held up until a liscence can be procured. In communication with Comèere this morning, it transpires that the General Transport Official in declaring the parts, translated the Mandrill & Extractor as tools. Had he said Motor parts, no objection would have been raised.

We are now despatching the Cadillac Fan to you via the General Transport. If any troubles arise with the British Customs, it will have to be stated that it has been taken off 31.EX. Before despatching this fan we have taken the following particulars.

The Fan Blades of the R.R. fan will be .100" further away from the matrix.

Test of flexibility of Blades & Arms.

Cadillac 2.3/4 lbs. for 1/2" deflection of blade & arm.
R.{Sir Henry Royce} R.{Sir Henry Royce} 5 lbs. "

i.e. taking 2.3/4 lbs. as 100%...... I lb. = 100 / 2.3/4

∴ R.R.Blades = 5 lbs. 5 x 100 / 2.3/4 = 500 / 2.3/4 = 82% stiffer.

Holding the arm of the Cadillac which in itself is flexible, the following are the figures of the blades only.

Cadillac 3.1/4 lbs. for 1/2 " deflection
R.{Sir Henry Royce} R.{Sir Henry Royce} 5 lbs. "

∴ 3.1/4 lbs = 100% ... I lb. = 100 / 3.1/4

5 lbs. = 5 x 100 / 3.1/4 = 500 / 3.1/4 = 54%.

∴ R.R. Blade is 54% stiffer than Cadillac.
