AXLES (Weight) Written by Mr Royce on March 5th 1912 Handed to T.C. on March 9th. Mr Royce said - It is important that the weight of the axles should be reduced. We should not be satisfied until we get at least 112 lbs. If no improvement is obtained with the aluminium levers and extra bearing this should be omitted. The value of these should be tested with the present coarse pitch axle. The strength of the pinion shaft should be increased. The axle tubes where they join the box could be made thinner and the torque tube where it joins the box made thicker. The flanges of both tubes and box could be lightened. Tests should be made by loading same and finding minimum allowable thickness. X137 | ||
