SPECIFICATION OF TEST RIGS. CHASSIS. SHOCK ABSORBERS. 1.A. Endurance Test Rig. 5.HP. fixed speed motor, 750 R.P.M. with gear box attached to give reducing range of speed - existing, but mounting plates and connecting tube require strengthening for Auto Lock type dampers. 1.B. Efficiency Tests. 10 HP. fixed speed motor with gear box attached to give reducing range of speed - existing, but mounting plates and connecting tube require strengthening for Auto Lock type dampers. VALVES & SPRINGS. 11. Endurance Tests on Valves, Springs & Seats, including Valve Bounce Tests. 30 HP. variable speed motor 1,500 R.P.M. to drive from rear end of gear box. Steam heated oil tank, 3 gallons capacity, with connections to standard pumps to supply oil to bearings and camshaft. Rig also useful for observing piston lubrication, and adaptable for coolant system tests. N.B. A temporary rig - belt-driven - has already been instructed for Bentley O.H.C. endurance tests. This, however, has a limited range of usefulness. The 30 HP. variable speed motor ordered for the 2nd. Aero Auxiliary Rig, (which is not to be completed), will be suitable for this. COOLANT PUMPS. 12. Performance & Endurance Tests. 5 HP. variable speed motor geared to give 7,000 P.R.P.M. Glycol and water pump test tank required, also venturi meters for delivery tests - rig to take Bentley and Phantom III pumps; also readily adaptable to other makes. (continued). | ||
