12-EX CAR. X9770

This car is fitted with the new exhaust system and with hydraulic dampers arranged to give a considerable increase of loading with increasing axle velocity. In other words, the idea is to control the car at high speeds without spoiling the low speed riding. Actually these shock absorbers are arranged for fitting them on a Sports car. The end in view being to develop a shock absorber which will obviate the necessity for Hartfords.

We should like to know what you think of the steering of this car; the brakes we would ask you not to criticise because the lining is hardened polished and therefore has a tendency to squeak.

We have deleted the felt washer over the valve guides on this car and instead have fitted guides which are finished off by pressing the hardened steel ball through the phosphor bronze. In this way we can reduce the clearance to such an extent that felt washers are hardly necessary. also the life of the guide is prolonged.

We would like you to notice any tendency to overoil from this alteration.
