'V' SERIES UNDERFRAME CHASSIS.
CHANGE LEVER SHAFT. X8320

We send herewith LeC. 2025., (original to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer}, print to R.{Sir Henry Royce}) change lever shaft with simplification as asked for by R.{Sir Henry Royce} in his memo. R4/M17.2.25.

We have worked to instructions in this memo. as nearly as possible. limitations of space have prohibited the incorporation of the 1.7 dimension shewn in sketch on this, but the main features and dimensions are as asked for.

We have however found it necessary to combine the inner bearing with the cover in order to have a sufficiently large hole through which a tubular spanner can be used for tightening up the nut on shaft.

It has been necessary to make the slight modification shewn to gearbox cover so that this can now be removed without dismantling the inner bearing of change lever shaft. In dismantling, to remove the lever from its shaft, distance pieces made from pieces of tube cut axially and placed between the inner end of gate tube and lever boss when former is withdrawn from the aluminium casting may be used.

This scheme as now shewn has the outer tube, which has been considerably shortened from previous designs, made from square bar, and the inner one is swaged down at one end.

We believe this replies (for G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} Dept.) to R's memo. concerning side levers.
