[Handwritten: X.8005] The solid forging can go forward to BY. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} but I fear this will be expensive. Our original tube ought to do if slightly strengthened, and brazing is avoided. It should be made in high duty steel properly heat treated. It might be possible to make this of a sheet metal pressing (hot) like a frame pressing: the section would be of good heat treated alloy steel of high EL. [Annotation by diagram] Forging rivetted in like front horn, or some such idea: lateral stiffness also necessary. But perhaps the sheet metal idea is OK; if calculations are favourable, it would be the cheapest and lightest scheme. The solid one depends chiefly on the cost of boring. BY. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} could choose from the 3 schemes. The solid one could have the lug forged on for the vibration damper. R. {Sir Henry Royce} | ||
