WATER IN MAIN PETROL TANK.

A disadvantage of the system now fitted to our cars whereby a reserve of some 2 or 3 gallons is made available by the use of 2 petrol suction pipes dipping to different levels in the tank has recently been observed. In this case for some reason or another water had been allowed to get into the tank and during the course of some months a considerable quantity had accumulated, not sufficient, however, to permit of its being drawn through the main petrol suction pipe.

During a test of this car, however, it was necessary to make use of the reserve suction pipe, when it was discovered that practically nothing but water was being sucked out of the main tank.

It is considered that this is a possibility in many cases, but it is not seen how it may readily be remedied.

It is thought, however, that it would be advisable to add some remarks on this matter to the Instruction Book so that owners are made aware of the necessity for keeping their main tank drained of water and for preventing its entry. It is suggested that an instruction should be inserted that, "Once a week the efficiency of the reserve petrol supply should be tested by using it for a short time."
