8180. To Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} From Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}7/MJ.18.1.32. CARS IN THE EXPERIMENTAL DEPT. We consider we can get rid of 14-EX. car at once. This is an EAC-7 Type of car which is more or less a Phantom 1 engine with a Phantom 11 frame. Most of the parts are non-standard so the only thing to do with it would be to scrap both the car and the body. We recommend, however, that instead of doing this, 14-EX. car should replace the present Transport car which is an old Silver Ghost and very much out of date. 14-EX. car will cost no more to run and would be a much better car in every way. Therefore it would be more economical to either scrap or get rid of the present Transport car. We are also prepared to get rid of 22-EX. car when we have 19-EX. built up and running. 19-EX. is at present all in pieces and being rebuilt for a 10,000 miles test. We can safely promise that within the next month we will get rid of 22-EX. As regards the remarks about the left-hand car, we think it would be very unwise to be left in the position of not having a model car at Derby. U.S.A. at the present time, as far as we can see, are our best customers for Phantom 11 cars and therefore we ought to expect to continue with the development. 25 HP. - We have now completed our investigations on the synchro-mesh box and can therefore get rid of 12-G4.
