Bush B.

(1) Type of motion. Simple Rotation.
(2) Static load. None. Shock load ± 150 lbs.
(3) Angle of motion 40°.
(4) Pin and eye dimensions. These are not rigidly fixed but should be of the same order as those shown in the drawing.
(5) Amount of Axial twist. Small.
(6) Limits imposed on torsional stiffness. None.
(7) Maximum allowable deflection. Must prevent metal to metal contact.

Bush C.

(1) Type of motion, simple rotation.
(2) Static load, None. Shock load ± 150 lbs.
(3) Angle of motion. Small.
(4) Pin and Eye dimensions. These not rigidly fixed but should be of the same order as those shown on the drawing.
(5) Amount of axial twist Dependant on rigidity of bushes A.{Mr Adams} & B.
(6) No limits imposed on torsional stiffness.
(7) Maximum allowable deflection of bearing. Must avoid metal to metal contact.

The second scheme where we should like to use Harris bushes is in the shock absorbers, we require the bushes to act as oil seals and in addition to this, we should like them to act as bearings; however, as the diametrical loads are high it may be necessary to retain the bearing at present in use. In any case we enclose drawings of FB.4718 and FB.4719 the bushes, in which the shock absorber shaft runs and FB.4717 the case into which the bushes are pressed: the oil seals at present in use are of the 'Perfect' type. We should be grateful if you would suggest a layout along the above lines, further we should be very much obliged if you could arrange a day for us to come over and discuss the matter with you.

Yours Faithfully,
FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
