Dear Mr. Hives,

In reply to your telephone enquiry with regard to the amount of benzol which should be added to Shell D.T.D.134 spirit to obtain 80 O.N., I find it a little difficult to specify the exact amount in the absence of specific information as to under what type of test conditions the 80 O.N. is specified. I would say, however, that under Series 30 Test Engine with jacket temperature of 190°C. we consider that at least 20% benzol should be added to our present D.T.D.134 supplies which, as you know, already contain 10% benzol; alternatively the addition of 1.02 c.cs. T.E.L. would presumably bring our present D.T.D.134 fuel to 80 O.N. under the same test conditions.

Yours sincerely,
