X7310 To Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} from HDY.{William Hardy} HDY.{William Hardy}1/HP.17.4.34. c. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} KHO. P.2. S.M. 2nd Gearbox. With reference to the difficulty in obtaining sufficient strength in the tongues of the change gear gate with the side travel of .450 shown on M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} Sch. 3968 we think that the best way out of this is to increase the side travel to .550. With this travel a finished thickness of gate of .125 may be tried as suggested when a pressing is used for the gate. The lateral distance between the handle of the change gear lever when in top and 3rd gears and the hand brake lever should remain unaltered. Will you kindly also extend the rear end of the reverse shaft by .5" in order that when the reverse gear is disengaged the oil hole in the rear bush shall be covered by the shaft and some oil retained in the trough feeding the bearing.
