Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X206 To Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} FROM Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Brake Jaggers on Bentley. Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}15/E25.8.36 Copy to Wcr.G.Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}E. BY Hx.Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer}Dx. Referring to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}7/KW.21.8.36 and E.1/HP.24.8.36 I am very glad to note that as a result of my Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}10/D20.7.36 definite action was taken to fit the bob weight balancer scheme to the two very bad and difficult cases to which I referred in that memo, and it is comforting to know that we have at last got a scheme which can be applied to existing cars. I see from E's note that the bob weight balancer has proved even more effective than the scheme on 6-B-IV but I note that arrangements are being made for some further tests to satisfy ourselves that it has not got some vices in addition to its virtues and I cannot too strongly emphasize the importance of Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} carrying out the further tests as quickly as possible. Meanwhile I agree that we should take the risk and go ahead with the manufacture of this simple scheme so that we can get it on production as soon as possible, and I should also like arrangements made for 6 sets to be sent as quickly as possible to K.{Mr Kilner} and 6 to W. Repair Dept., with instructions as to how to fit and to use them for troublesome cases. Paris might also have three sets sent. As soon as we are satisfied that there are no vices, we must arrange to manufacture sufficient for all existing 4 1/4-litre Bentley cars. I understand from G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} that Mr.Ballantine on his car has tried every means to produce jaggers but has failed. I imagine from the former report, Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}1/KW. 27.7.36 that it had been fairly exhaustively tested so that I hope these further tests will not take long.
