Ref: RR.56 LINERS (SHIMS) FOR BEARINGS :
of 4 1/4 LITRE BENTLEY CHASSIS
---------------------------------

Please find attached copy of a memo, reference Sr/VA4/GM.16.12.36, which we sent to Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} with a copy to D/BP.

With regard to the RR.56 liners which we have ordered for the main bearings and which will be used to replace existing steel liners with Hall's metal facings, we shall be glad if, instead of the standard thickness of .100", they can be made .110 thick. The reason for this is that we recently attended to an engine and had to step the upper face of the liners and reduce the faces of the bearing caps in order to take up slackness on the outer diameter of the bearings, due to sinkage. We found afterwards that we had to ease the lower halves of the main bearings by scraping, which is rather a long job. If we can obtain thicker liners from you, then we can in future avoid having to touch the inner bearing surfaces.
