RE. PHANTOM III OVEROILING We have now tried out the scheme for reducing the oil supply to the rocker mechanism as suggested in Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}10/JH26.11.37 on six chassis. In every case we have been able to reduce the smoke from the exhaust to an amount we consider to be quite reasonable and would not be remarked on. There is definitely less oil about on the cylinder heads, and we should say there would certainly be less trouble with overoiling of plugs when the valve guides have worn slightly. We ran one engine right through its complete tests starting on the De Laval with the reduced size of hole in the banjo unions, and at the end of the test the oil filter was perfectly clean. We would recommend that this scheme be put into production. | ||
