Section 5040.

Piston and Fittings to LOP. EW.2178, instructed in sufficient quantity for 8 Cylinder.

The above parts have been instructed for use with the Conventional Type of 8 Cylinder Engine i.e. Rolls-Royce Valve Mechanism. The lower half portion of the Top Half Crankcase (EB.4600) has not been modified in any way and we contemplate that this portion of the core boxes be utilised. The top portion i.e. the water jacket and cylinder bores have been completely modified, but only in respect of cores. The complete pattern of EB.4600 with the exception of two bosses on the rear end view (which have been increased in dia.) may be used to produce this casting.

The petrol pump bushes have been deleted in accordance with the request to use the larger dia. Push Rod EB.4920.

The camshaft bearing bushes have also been dispensed with in accordance with Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}'s verbal instructions.

This completes instructions for this experiment.

One set of HPS{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}'s prints attached to Roy{Sir Henry Royce}/Les's copy of this memo.
