We have recently completed the first 50 hr. endurance test on the above type of unit which can be regarded as a very satisfactory run, having no major failures, the final 12 hrs. of the run being carried out non-stop. Prior to commencing the endurance the Unit had run a total of 55 hrs. on general development work. Unit Specification. .4 carbon crankshaft with 2.75 dia. journals as against original design of 2.5. Vandervell strip "Babbit on Steel" main bearings. Standard Wraith thin section AC.9 big end brgs. Standard Bentley Aerolite pistons EB.3916. Original type high power cylinder head with increased throat PD.292, which with .030 Klingerit cylinder head gasket gives a compression ratio of 6.25 : 1. Motor Component inlet valves. Sodium filled exhaust valves. Inlet valve seats S.65. Exhaust valve seats, "Brichrome". 18 hrs. with R.R. harmonic damper, remaining 32 hrs. with adapted Studebaker damper. Phantom III double valve springs. Short duration camshaft EB.4512. Twin Duplex downdraught Stromberg Carburetter. | ||
