PROPELLER SHAFT CLEARANCE. We have checked over our Experimental Phantom III. cars and find that no trouble has been experienced with the universal joint fouling the pot on the floor. With a buffer clearance of 4.4375" we have 6.500" clearance between the universal joint and the pot. This leaves 2" clearance on full bump, but under the worst conditions of max. torque this is further reduced by 1.625". If we allow for the buffers compressing on the bump, we shall just about touch. It will be seen therefore that we have to hit the buffers, and be on max. torque at the same time to foul. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FD.{Frank Dodd - Bodies} | ||
