My dear Grylls.

Thank you so much for your letter of the 3rd inst. -- I also was sorry not to see you at Donington, but we had to return hurriedly in order to get the Cars back to Bourne.

Your kind wishes re South Africa are much appreciated.

For your personal information I am delivering my 4 1/2 litre Bentley to your London Show rooms just before leaving for South Africa, and your people are taking this Car back, and putting a new one in hand for me to be ready when I return. Are there any new “gadgets” of any sort that you can fit to this Car, and also I am wondering if it is possible to have a slightly higher compression cylinder head ?. Would you please treat this as confidential, and let me know what you think can be done and then I can suggest this to Sidgreaves as coming from me.

With kindest regards.

Yours sincerely.

Raymond Mays
