re CHASSIS NO. 3.BT{Capt. J. S. Burt - Engineer}-121.
Mr. Bameyer.
-------------------

Further to our Hd{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy}/SB{Mr Bull/Mr Bannister}29/HR.12.7.37., in respect of a complaint of petrol failure on 3.BU-104, Herr von Riedemann., we have received a similar complaint concerning Mr. Bameyer's Phantom III.

Our Representatives in Geneva - Messrs. Perrot Duval & Cie - have written as per the following translation:-

".........We would point out that we had a visit yesterday from Mr. Bameyer, owner of Phantom III Cabriolet No. 3.BT{Capt. J. S. Burt - Engineer}-121, engine No. V.98.G., who had already had the petrol pump on his car changed by your representative from Paris.

After examining the car we noticed that the inconvenience referred to by the customer does not emanate from any defect in the functioning of the pump, but from the heating of the pump as well as the petrol pipes from the pump to the carburetter. This inconvenience has been noticed on different kinds of cars. In order to remedy it we have isolated the pump by means of asbestos and we have also displaced the petrol pipes in such a way that these obtain a current of air from the fan - this, however, is only a provisional measure.

We would advise you, after our experience in the mountains, to fit the petrol pump in the chassis - protect it with a cover from the mud - and to pass the petrol piping outside the chassis to the front of the car and make it reach the carburetter by passing in front of the fan - this method is actually adopted on many of the American and European makes."

We think consideration should be given to the advisability of fitting the petrol pump in the frame on cars which are likely to suffer from this trouble on the Continent, and we shall be glad to hear what action you advise.
