+354 Swell. Should take our history of broken valve springs of the type we have standardised on the test bed. What springs were fitted to 35EX & 34EX? Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} S/W. To EX. from Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} copy to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} copy to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} copy to Hvr Re: Phantom III Valve Springs You will, I am sure, be as concerned as we are to hear that the white valve springs which we were given to understand would be quite O.K. are breaking. Five were found broken on our trials car 34-EX when it returned on Monday morning last, and nine of the keeper rings that prevent the valve from dropping into the cylinder were also broken. On Lord Portarlington's car one was found broken after 70 miles running. Another point with which I am seriously concerned is that on both cars JLE.{J. Lee Evans - Chassis Test Manager} reports that the tappet adjusting screw ball ends were found to be badly worn. I have been looking through reports of cars that have done tests in France, and I cannot find anything which indicates excessive wear at this point, so one wonders what is happening. Can you throw any light on it, please? Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} | ||
