Copy to Rm. {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} BW. Ev {Ivan Evernden - coachwork} /DB. {Donald Bastow - Suspensions} 1/SW. 13th January, 1941. Burman & Sons, Ltd., Ryland Road, BIRMINGHAM.15. Dear Sirs, Thank you very much for your letter of Dec. 16th last, with the print of the Vauxhall 10 steering box. From our investigations from this drawing, it appears that the actual box as shown on your drawing, will be suitable, but there are one or two doubtful points that I would like to clear up. First there is the question of length of column; the dimension we require from centre line of rocking shaft to top of thread on inner steering tube is of the order of 56¼", instead of the 43⅝" of your drawing. Would it be possible for you to supply a column with this dimension? Secondly, I have been given to understand that the same box is used on the Vauxhall 10, 12 & 14 h.p. cars, but I notice that the 14 h.p. car has the direction indicator control at the centre of the steering wheel, implying a central stationary tube. Can you tell me whether this is available with the same size of box at the bottom end as on the Vauxhall 10? If it is, we might like to use it. This further information should enable us to let you know our definite requirements. The box, incidentally is wanted for a special purpose runabout that we require. It would probably save time if you were to address future letters for my attention, as your last letter, of Dec. 16th did not reach me until the 23rd. I tried to get you on the telephone on three or four occasions before the receipt of your last letter, but was told that your 'phone was out of order. Can you tell me if I should be able to get you in future if this should be necessary. Yours faithfully, D. {John DeLooze - Company Secretary} Bastow. [Handwritten Note]: file Steering 1300 | ||
