EPICYCLIC THIRD SPEED
GEARBOX CONTROLS.

with reference to N. scheme 3226. we noticed on the sample fitted to 27-EX. that the levers controlling the carburation and the gear gashed the lower quadrant plate, rather in the same way, but to a less extent, than the carburation lever did on the original lowered controls. We do not desire to have this gashing at all. In order to overcome it we suggest that the upper quadrant should be raised in height about .1", the klaxon switch knob being raised a similar amount. The levers for operating the carburation and the gear are then raised at their outer ends the same amount when they should be clear of the lower quadrant.

It also appears to us that the finger grips for operating the governor and ignition levers are closer down to the quadrant than was intended. We see that on N. sch. 3226. the top of the finger grip to the face of the quadrant measures about .425" whereas those on 27-EX. appeared to be not more than .350". We quite understand that those on 27-EX. were temporary all metal ones, but we should like this distance not to be less than shewn on N. scheme 3226.

We hope that these two modifications can be effected before the controls are exhibited for criticism.
