ORIGINAL RECEIVED 30 APR 1931 FROM E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} TO BG. WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} TO HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} BI. P. 2. DOWN DRAUGHT CARBURETTER. x7080. No useful experimental work can be done on the down draught carburetter until it is fitted with an improved induction pipe giving better distribution. On the pipe at present in use the manifold is much too close to the throttle (the throttle valve itself projects into the manifold) and there is no provision for heating. The resulting poor distribution masks any experimental results that are obtained. We attach herewith a print of LeC. 2895. shewing a proposal for an improved pipe in which as much length as possible has been introduced between throttle and manifold in the form of a jacketed cast iron bend having a slot shaped discharge into the manifold. It will be noticed that the carburetter has been raised up as near as possible to the roof of the bonnet. The manifold has been curved in the plan view to shorten the distance to the end cylinders and this curvature might be made still more pronounced to obtain a neater effect.
