Attention of Mr. W.A. Robotham YOUR REF. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}4/R4 OUR REF. WAC/PG 6119 SUBJECT 15th November..1938 Dear Sirs, We duly received your letter of the 11th instant. We have today had the opportunity of discussing this matter at some length with Mr. Childs and we hope we have assured him that it is, and always has been, our desire to spare no effort to give you every satisfaction. The difference of opinion that has arisen is mainly that, whereas you attach the present trouble to soft cams, our contention has been that it is due to the rubbing block material (Tufnol) which you have requested us to use. It is evident that so long as Tufnol rubbing blocks are used, the cam surfaces must be hardened, and we are arranging to supply hardened cams for your equipment. Mr. Childs very kindly agreed to have a quantity of our finished cams checked for hardness and Mr. Rushton is sending him a supply at once for this purpose. Those sub-assemblies which meet your hardness requirements will be retained by you and you will return to us for rectification a corresponding number of sub-assemblies from deliveries we have already made and which do not come up to the required hardness so far as the cams are concerned. | ||
