To E.A. from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Copy to G.J. " " B.W. " " P.F. " " T.S. ORIGINAL. E2/G21/7/20. EPC.X.3801. RE "BUZZARD" CYLINDER BLOCK. There is an alternative design for the "Buzzard" cylinder block which Mr. Royce wishes to try. The object is to try and do away with some of the difficulties of casting which would be caused by the presence of the long bosses for the holding down bolts. The alternative design should have inserted steel tubes screwed in from the top on to taper seatings in the bottom flange, as shewn in the sketch - RECEIVED 22 JUL 1920 These tubes will, of course, be screwed in tightly in the first place, and there should be no tendency to leak at the bottom end, since the load of the holding down bolt will make the joint on the taper seating more sure. Would you kindly, in accordance with Mr. Royce's wishes, prepare an alternative detail drawing sending him a copy for criticism. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
