1) ORDERING OF SUPPLIES FOR A FURTHER 500 CHASSIS, IF POSSIBLE AT A REDUCED COST.

If continuity of supply and operations is to be assured it is necessary that materials for a further 500 chassis be ordered forthwith. Owing to exceptional circumstances, the present appears to be a favourable moment for placing orders, for the following reasons -

(a) We have been able to obtain certain reductions in prices, provided our supplies are enabled to maintain continuity of supplies. In this list we have:-

Vickers Ltd. 5% reduction on cost of forgings.

Thos. Firth & Sons Ltd. 5% reduction on cost of forgings. 2 1/2% " " " S.&N.C.H.S. (This represents about two-thirds of the alloy steels supplied by Firths for the chassis.)

W. Gilbertson & Co. Ltd. About 8% reduction on cost of Mild Steel Billets and bars.

B'gham Stopper & Cycle Components Ltd. 10% reduction on cost of certain pressings. This reduction cannot be made in cases where less than 1000 pressings of a pattern are required and in consequence the average reduction will be about 5%.

We are hoping to obtain some reduction in cost of chassis frame pressings, wire wheels and hubs, and Cylinder castings, but this will not be known until tomorrow.

(b) The present price of copper is more favourable than it has been for some time and it is unlikely that the price will remain as low as at present.
