RE SHEET METAL TERMINALS.

We send you herewith drawing No. Lec.1130 giving particulars of a low and high tension sheet metal terminal to suit a flexible low tension conductor of .175" diameter over the outside of the insulation, and the standard high tension wire we use respectively.

Would you kindly put in hand the necessary material for testing these terminals with a view to standardisation.

You will notice that the principle of the device consists of the use of two pressings, one of which has fingers which can be bent over on to the other to amalgamate the two eyelets of the pressings around the strands of the conductor. The pressings also fit semi-circularly on to the insulation of the lead, and are gripped thereon by a ring made from a piece of solid drawn tube.

The final operation of forming the terminal is that of tightening the last mentioned ring by pushing four corrugations into it, these corrugations sinking into windows provided in the pressings.

With these in regular manufacture, a small machine would no doubt be provided for tightening the rings, and also the same purpose might be accomplished away from the Works by means of special pliers. At the moment, however, Mr. Royce considers that all we need do is to make a small pair of dies for operating in a press for assembling the experimental terminals.
