SECRET. Y262 To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Copy to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}C. International Tourist Trophy Race. Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}7/E16.5.34 Referring to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}5/MJ.14.5.34 C. and I saw Mr.Hall yesterday and we told him that we did not propose to put any difficulty in his way - in fact on the contrary we would help him in the manner indicated in your memo., i.e. by lending him a unit for the race. I also told him that you would like him to come to Derby and have a talk and I understand that he will do so in the near future. The race, I understand, is in the first day or so of September and, in view of the Works' August holiday - (I am not sure what date this is this year) - I should like you to consider whether you ought to change his unit before or after the holiday. The nearer the date of the race the better. We shall also, I think, have to help him to the extent of sending one of our best men over for two or three days. He would like a man for the practice day and for the final check-over of the car. He knows the course so well and has raced there every year since about 1928 that he will not really use the car for any strenuous practice driving, and I think he appreciates the importance of this from the point of view of not wearing the car out in advance. Would you please note that we want this entry kept secret and Mr.Hall will not enter until the very last date and will pay the double fees which this plan necessitates. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} | ||
