E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} } FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} X408. R3/M31.8.32. X5080. C. to SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} 3. & PEREGRINE CARBURETTER. The question of the consumption of fuel is becoming rather serious with all our cars. We must expect it to increase as we give more acceleration. It would appear however that it should have become better somewhat due to the higher gear. At the same time the car in France is running at a higher average speed, and would naturally therefore make the consumption worse. I am inclined to think that we must maintain in all the types an effective control over the mixture strength, so that we can reduce the strength to the minimum when the engine has warmed up. I am not satisfied that the throttle edge mixture strength can be fixed, especially as we find that the main jet control has to be a compromise. I think this could be fixed on the existing P. 2. carburetter of this type, as explained to HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
