Re: Chassis-43-GX-Baron Empain
We have received a memo from "Whr{Mr Wheeler}" stating that Baron Empain is not satisfied with the speed obtained from the above car.
This customer is also the owner of a long type Phantom II.chassis, vis : chassis No. 161-GY.
Apparently this latter car can reach a speed of 82 m.p.h. between Brussels and Paris whereas chassis 43-GX can only reach 80 m.p.h.
The customer therefore is very disappointed as he apparently purchased the/continental touring chassis especially for speed work.
The car is being sent to us at the end of this week to be examined, tested and tuned up for high speed work.
The first thing we shall examine will be the correct working of the speedometer.
The owner is very pleased with the acceleration. We sent a man to Brussels to carry out the final test of this car, however our man did not test it for high speed or altered any of the adjustments of the engine.
We shall be glad to receive any useful information (apart from the standard tuning up of the engine) re tuning up this particular type of engine for High Speed work, as it is of the utmost importance that we give every satisfaction to Baron Empain who is a "Speed merchant".
