-6- it experimentally for a few weeks, but are very enthusiastic about its efficiency. They have run 15 hrs. endurance at 4250 revs. The Micarta is used as a tube to drive the flywheel as indicated in the attached sketch.- [Blueprint Diagram Text] DAMPER FLYWHEEL BEING DRIVEN BY TUBE OF MICARTA 2.5" 3/16" BEARING OF MICARTA ON STEEL If you will send me the drawing of the nose of the 12 cyl. and the room left for the damper, together with details of the taper, I will have parts made up for test. Naturally the rating of the tube has to be juggled with and the longer the tube, the more material that can be got in for a given rate and the less the stress. This stuff also used in clutch centres. COOLING FANS. The variable pitch rubber blade root fan was standardised on the 16 cyl. this year but turned down on account of cost (5 dollars per car). This fan delivers the same quantity of air as the standard one up to 1000 r.p.m. At 2000 r.p.m. 25% less. At 3400 r.p.m. it requires 4.5 H.P. to drive it against 16 H.P. for the standard, which as you can imagine is a stalwart specimen. It occurs to me this is too good to miss, as it might enable us to save a pound or two on | ||
