40/50 H.P. CHASSIS OUTPUT.

I am in receipt of your Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}5/R10.4.34. and have discussed this with C. and Cx.{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager}

In view of 'SpectreCodename for Phantom III' position, it certainly looks as if the order for 50 sets of material had better be increased to 100.

With regard to the modifications, in view of the fact that it seems as if we shall have to live with the Phantom II throughout 1935, we are rather concerned with the idea of jettisoning some of the features listed in E/Lid{A. J. Lidsey}2/HP. 26.2.34, which were on the list with an indication that they would probably improve silence, smoothness, vibration, etc.

It is difficult to deal with these matters by correspondence and to appreciate the true position, and I am therefore asking Cx.{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager} to come up to Derby next week to discuss the matter with E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} and Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} - and yourself as well if you wish to be present. Perhaps you will let us know which day would suit you best.

If, from the point of view of the 10,000 miles test it is possible to get some of them on the second 50, if not on the first 50, this is better than nothing. The sort of things we have in mind are those numbered:

B. ENGINE
3. [Strikethrough: Longer oil filler] [Handwritten: Balancing Cam (No)]
5. Helical Gear Oil Pump. [Handwritten: (No)]
6. More silent fan. [Handwritten: (wait-further news)]
7. Auto adjusted tappets [Handwritten: (No)]
8. Eccentric mounted dynamo pinion. [Handwritten: (suit works)]

CHASSIS.
8. [Handwritten: Crackles & rattles]
17. Semi-isolation of floor boards
18 if it contributes to the silence of the rear axle.

We agree with Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} that we ought not to try and get any more power out of the Phantom, in fact I am afraid we have rather overdone it already, but we do want greater silence and smoothness.
