Material - 40/50 h.p. T2 Series.

I went to W. yesterday and discussed with W or an other officials the question raised in your Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}2/C18.4.34, with particular reference to the increasing of the sets of material recently authorised from 50 to 100.

It would appear to be quite evident that we shall need to increase the number of sets of new material to 100, but in the second 50 of these we may get some further improvements which should help us in selling the 40/50 model.

I went through in detail at the Works yesterday E/Lid{A. J. Lidsey}2/HP26.2.34 and E/Lid{A. J. Lidsey}1/HP10.4.34, in order to see what we can get by way of further improvements which would help us to sell the car, that is to say, give us a better car as regards silence or smoothness or improving its present features in any way considered desirable.

I understand that commencing with T2 series we can expect the following additional improvements contained in E/Lid{A. J. Lidsey}2 /HP26.2.34. Under the heading of 'Engine' - Points 1-9 - we are to get nothing except No.8 (more silent fan), but I ascertained that the features contributing to silence are not such as would affect us in London but they affect the Works. In other words, they are production problems. For instance, No.3 - Balancing cam and camshaft - quieter timing gears. This does not mean that we should get quieter timing gears in London, it means that it would help the Works to get the gears quiet more easily before the chassis left the Works. The same remark applies to No.5 - Helical gear oil pump for improved silence. This again is a Works' difficulty and helps them to get the silence more easily.

Under the heading of 'Chassis', No.10- Easy brake adjustment - we are to get this at the beginning of T2 series.

In the second half of T2 we can expect a gearbox with S/m on second gear and that will automatically have the effect of improving the clutch, i.e. silent engagement of second gear when standing.
