We think there is too much of the three bearing scheme, as well as some undesirable features, in the design sent to us.

Mr.H ardy has shewn the two wheels in one piece but you can still put in the larger one if you wish.

We have made the reverse pinion smaller, as the reason for the larger one has been removed.

We have shewn the travel well past the rounded corners, but whether this is any advantage we know not, and it should only be used if found to do some good.

We are of the opinion that the wheel overhanging the central bearing is not good, and have abandoned it entirely, because either from the deflection aspect, or slack in the bearings, we feel sure it increases the risk of the gears working out.

The final test should be made with slack bearings - i.e. well worn condition.

Magnolia metal is a humbug, being 75% lead. We should never use it. If Kelmit will meet the case I am sure our standard whitemetal should, or something is wrong in deflection or lubrication.

If the arrangement shewn on N. sch. 4392. does not succeed we think the best thing to do would be to alter the box and arrange the shaft and wheels to slide into gear by moving forward, so that it will work into gear instead of out.
