We are interested in the question of torque re-action vibration.

This is considered to be the most difficult point that we have to overcome in our 40/50 car, and it must also be realised that it exists in Goshawk-11.

We do not notice it in the Delage because the carburation is so bad. Many other cars we have tried also, but owing to poor carburation and pulling at slow speeds, the vibration is not particularly manifest.

We think however the Marmon is one of the most interesting cars in which to investigate this phenomenon, but we do not know whether you consider this does exist on the Marmon. We do not know whether you have tried a RR. carburetter on the Marmon, whether the Marmon gives you a satisfactory torque down to very slow speeds, in which such vibrations occur.

We understand that the Hawk-Northcliffe has not this fault owing to the success of our suspension making such vibrations only exist at an un-useable low speed, and even this might be damped out or reduced with suitable dampers (RR. patent.)

We are not sure however whether the suspension can be considered entirely a practical proposition, and whether the suspension was found to need very stiff springs, or whether the engine had to be left in a very flexible and sloppy condition. This latter would suggest that it was hardly practical.

I shall be glad if you will let us have your
