Dear Mr. Geoffrey Smith,

Thank you for your letter of 11th March.

When I said that the Girling expander actuation was employed, I included the adjustment in this remark, since the two are interconnected.

With regard to the Girling shoe and the Girling operational linkage. In the case of the shoe it is true that Messrs. New Hudson are fabricating this for us, but they have no patent on it as far as I know, and it is very like the shoes we have been using for the last twenty years. The operational linkage is not make by Girlings and, unless they are entitled to put their name on every linkage which operates in tension, I cannot see that they can claim to have their name connected with it.

I want to be quite fair to Girlings, but they have not engineered our brake system and I do not see why they should wish to make it appear that they have done so.

As a matter of fact, even in the wedge application of the shoes, we are using a link between the two shoes to even up the wear, which is not employed in the normal Girling set-up.

If Mr. Fraser disputes our facts, perhaps he will be good enough to write to me.

Yours sincerely,
