To Ep.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} from Oy. c. to H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} ORIGINAL Oyl/B30:6:17. RECEIVED 10 JUN 1917 D H X.2759 Re Performances of R.R. Engines in Planes. X.2810 May I refer your attention to letter CJ11/C27617, in which Mr. Johnson says "I think it is most desirable that we should obtain particulars of the latest and best performances of aeroplanes fitted with R.R. engines from time to time, and that when we obtain them, they should be wired to me in America". Since the date of this letter, I have seen Mr. Johnson in London, and he has agreed that I should do all I can to obtain particulars of some of the best recent test results, for example, those with the experimental D.H.4 at Hendon, and the Martinsyde at Brooklands and Martlesham Heath. I have recently rung up Martinsydes at Brooklands, and have been promised particulars of the performances of their machine at Martlesham Heath. Clyburne has taken, I understand, a complete record of these tests. Would you please instruct him to forward these records to us through your own department at the very earliest possible moment. At the same time, I am trying to get details of the D.H.4 results and will then wire the chief of these results to Mr. Johnson. Would you please keep us informed of any further results of which you hear, obtained with these two machines or any other machines fitted with our engines. For example, the Handley Page machines have put up some interesting performances, of which I believe we have not full details. Oy. M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} Olley. | ||
