40/50 CHASSIS.
RE STANDARDISATION OF TYRES.

In Mr Elliott's memo El/G.19.2.19, of which I notice you were supplied with a copy, Mr Elliott makes the following remarks:-

"Referring to the tyres, Mr Royce thinks that the twin tyres might be 120 mm used in conjunction with tyres of 120 mm diameter on the front wheels. The single tyres might be 150 mm throughout the Car".

As there was some doubt in my mind as to whether Mr Royce actually meant to standardise the 150 mm tyre for all 40/50 chassis, I wired him, asking him whether he intended the 150 mm section of tyre to be standardised in place of the 135 mm. Mr Royce wired his reply as follows:-

"Bailey. Re Dunlop Wheel for 40/50 chassis, Mr Royce wished to use 150 mm tyres on 135 mm wheels the same as 49CB stop This applies to Michelin single wheel also stop Royce".

Will you kindly send out standardisation sheets in the usual way, pointing out that Mr Royce suggests that what was known in pre-war days as the 895 oversize tyre, that is, a tyre 895 x 150 mm, which actually fits on the same rim as the old standard 895 x 135, should be made standard for production from now onwards on the 40/50 chassis.
