CAR WORK - re. HYDRAULIC DAMPERS.
DOUBLE VERTICAL PISTON TYPE.

At the moment we prefer this type because there is no reversal of forces on the main bearing, and we can keep all the slack out of the pistons and their lever connections.

HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/RM.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} has tested the single piston vertical ones used on the front of P. 2. and thinks the side corresponding to the above type is the most efficient specimen he has tested for short stroke efficiency.

The design was giving us some trouble because we thought we must keep the pistons from turning round. This seems to be satisfactorily solved by the stirrup type of connection with DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/HDY{William Hardy}'s single central spring. This came to my mind during the night before I left, and I sent a note and sketch by Mr. Marmont (to DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} only.) Further sketch with explanations of this and additional features here attached.
