EFCL/T22.4.25. X.4414P. PETO & RADFORD BATTERIES. Report after dis-assembling of the components of the P & R, RR. 20 HP. size chassis battery, known as the P&R.{Sir Henry Royce} Composite. --------------------- This battery was received in a charged condition on 10.12.23; weight 84 lbs; From 12.12.23 to 2.3.25 the battery has been one of a number of batteries constit- uting the experimental group subject to a good deal of overcharging at about 9 amperes, interspersed with bi-weekly periods of discharge. It will be understood that though the battery was stationary, the large amount of overcharging renders the treatment more severe than in the same period of service on a chassis. From time to time the battery has been temporarily removed from this set and subjected to ordinary high rate and low rate discharge tests, concerning which there is nothing particular to report, the battery having done on these tests what might reasonably be expected of it. In this battery there were four different types of cells in accordance with the diagram attached, in which cells Nos.1 & 3 on the one hand and 4 & 6 on the other are similar respectively, the other two, viz. 2 & 5, being different. The battery failed by the two cells Nos. 2 and 5, which contained no ebonite separators in addition to wood, failing to maintain voltage for any appreciable time on discharge. Contd. | ||
