Dear Pomeroy,

It was with regret that I read that you are now proposing to confine your activities to aircraft engines, but I hope that we shall still be able to have occasional discussions on current power unit practice to our mutual advantage.

I wonder whether you could give me any information on the subject of Simplex piston rings. This ring is of a somewhat disconcerting design, for which the Wellworthy people claim great things, and we are proposing to make some tests to see whether these claims can be substantiated or not. We understand from these people, however, that for about three years you fitted them as original equipment to sleeve valve Daimlers and they got you out of a great deal of trouble. I should be very grateful if you could let me know whether this was so.

Yours sincerely,
