IT REALLY IS IMPORTANT to maintain the level of the electrolyte by the addition of distilled water (or acid if electrolyte is spilt), so that the PLATES are ALWAYS COVERED. IT REALLY IS IMPORTANT that every accumulator with plates of ordinary thickness, not more frequently requiring charge as a result of ordinary use, be given a freshening charge at intervals not exceeding ONE MONTH, or SIX WEEKS as the ABSOLUTE MAXIMUM. (With block plates the intervals may be longer). IT REALLY IS IMPORTANT NEVER to allow the potential difference (P.D.) between the terminals of any cell on normal discharge to FALL BELOW 1.8 VOLTS. IT REALLY IS IMPORTANT NEVER to allow the specific gravity of any cell on discharge or otherwise to fall below 1150.
