E/. FROM E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Copy to SC. Copy to WDR Copy to HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} EL/M4.6.30. [Handwritten: X7080.] P. 2. CARBURETTER SILENCER. We send herewith LeC. 2803. shewing modifications for reducing the power loss at high speed, as follows:- (1) Larger air port and casing feeding air valve having an increase of 18% in cross sectional area. (2) Inner tube of silencer deleted. (3) Entrance ports to upper and lower castings of air silencer curved to reduce turbulence. An alternative scheme is also shewn for replacing the outer tube of the silencer with an 'Air Maze' gauze for when an air cleaner is required as we should expect on chassis intended for America.
