Chassis Rear Road Springs.

I was at Jonas Woodhead & Sons Ltd. on Friday after-noon, 27th inst. and ascertained that the position is as follows:-

Woodheads have undertaken (unforeseen circumstances excepted) to commence delivery of rear springs of the new pattern on 15th November at the rate of 45 pairs per week. It will be necessary to carry on with the present pattern of rear springs to the 1500th chassis and all these springs will be delivered (unforeseen difficulties excepted) by 15th November.

Steel for a further 500 pairs of rear springs of the present pattern has been rolled. Woodheads will endeavour to make use of same for further orders and it was arranged that no claim in respect of same would be made for six months.

The cost of the new pattern rear springs will be higher than the cost of the present pattern, although the basis price for the steel will not be increased.

With regard to the rear springs for Springfield, 120 (half the total number ordered) will be made to our present pattern and these will all be ready (unforeseen difficulties excepted) for collection during the next four weeks. Woodheads cannot undertake the drilling of these springs; therefore, if same are to be drilled before they are despatched to Springfield, the work will have to be done here. The same remark applies to front springs for Springfield.

Woodheads estimate that their out-of-pocket expenses in connection with the manufacture of experimental springs (exclusive of the springs themselves) are £150.0 0d.
