THE BIRMINGHAM ALUMINIUM CASTING (1903) COMPANY LTD. BIRMID WORKS SMETHWICK BIRMINGHAM Telephone: SMETHWICK 1213-6 Telegrams: 'BIRMAL SMETHWICK' OUR REFERENCE: APF/MOT. PISTON.B. YOUR REFERENCE: Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Mths{Reg Matthews} 4/R.{Sir Henry Royce} June 7th 1937. MATTHEWS Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., DERBY. Dear Sirs, For the attention of Mr. Robotham. With regard to the experimental Autothermic Pistons which we have on hand, we regret to inform you that these have not progressed as rapidly as we hoped, on account of the fact that one casting for the one half die proved very defective during the last few operations in the machining, which has rather delayed matters in getting a new casting through and machined up for the job. You will recollect that we were hoping to let you have some of these experimental pistons about the present time. We have actually not received the dies from our tool room due to the above mentioned trouble. They are however, we are pleased to report, practically on point of completion, therefore immediately they are released we will have the first sample checked up and if no modifications are required will immediately go into production. After the sample has been checked up we will write you again and advise you when we hope to have these actually in your possession. Yours faithfully, FOR THE BIRMINGHAM ALUMINIUM CASTING (1903) CO LTD. MANAGER, PISTON DEPT. LONDON OFFICE: ABFORD HOUSE, WILTON ROAD, S.W.1. Telephone Victoria 1620. | ||
