COPY. BJ from R.{Sir Henry Royce} (At Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence). SECRET. R2/M27.2.28 REC'D & DESPATCHED FROM WW. 1.3.28 My dear BJ., EAC.10. KNOWN AS "SS{S. Smith}". The body for Super Sports ("SS{S. Smith}") can be any type you like. There will be no loss in having 3 different types made - (1) your heavy closed (90%) production), (2) similar to the one I have here, (I believe this actual body will do: EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} will say), and (3) I vote for a 4 seater light closed stream line (Sports). There is not the slightest doubt but that we shall get improved riding, and I am expecting very definite reduction in weight and cost. Bodies should be self contained, either like Sports, or on underframe, and mounted on rubber mounts as we have been using on test for some time - i.e. as the car I have at Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence, experience from which makes me write more emphatically. I want to impress upon all concerned, that regarding our car work, it is more important to get this going quickly than anything else I know of. To speed up, make 3 chassis, and don't be short of a body for them, so that any can be used for any purpose without delay. All should remember what I am saying. Safety and sales - our life blood - depends on getting this into production. Yours ever, R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
