To B.J. from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} 48830 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/LG5. 3. 28. PHANTOM 'SS{S. Smith}'. 48774 We consider there is very little risk in putting in hand 3 bodies for the 'SS{S. Smith}' Phantom. The bodies which R.{Sir Henry Royce} suggests we consider are a good selection. They do not include an open touring car, but the open car is always an easy proposition. If we can only make the chassis satisfactory to cover the range of bodies R.{Sir Henry Royce} suggests there will be no doubt about the open car being satisfactory. We assume that these bodies, if manufactured without special over-time, will take approximately 3 months to complete. WW. of course will be responsible for the designs or approving the coachmakers designs for these bodies. We see no reason why it should not be possible to have an SS.{S. Smith} chassis ready in 3 months. The job which is likely to delay this chassis is the 'H' engine. At present the 'H' engine is receiving preference over the SS.{S. Smith} Phantom as regards patterns. We think however it is very probable that Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} will be able to make arrangements so that both of these jobs can be pushed at full speed. At the moment the instructions are to produce one chassis. We think there would be very little risk if this was increased to 3 because although 3 chassis are instructed it does not mean that 3 chassis would be completed at the same time, one would be pushed ahead of the others and any doubtful parts would be held up on the other 2. The risk with the SS.{S. Smith} Phantom chassis is contd .. | ||
