Report on bumping test of rear of chassis
to test the forward frame brackets of
the rear springs. F4273 - X.879

A frame was built up and fitted with axles etc. It was loaded and the back wheels were run on the bumping machine. 3" humps were used run at 105 revs. per min. Palmer tyres were fitted and used at 80 lbs pressure. Rear Springs with few thick plates F4038 and F4035 were fitted.

After running 6 hours 25 minutes the following parts were found broken.
Cross Member in front of gear box F586 had both off and near side flanges broken. Breakage commences at top.

Cross member behind gear box had bolts loose in off side flange. F311

The small cross member which carries the back end of the torque ball draw bars had both end flanges broken.

The shocks to the frame and fittings is much worse when bumping the back wheels than when bumping the front wheels.
