To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to CJ. c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} X4383 HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}7/LG11.7.22. GOSHAWK 11. GENERATORS. X.4383. X.4333. We despatched to you yesterday per passenger train the R-R Generator fitted with the built-up mica commutator. This generator has not the latest end cover at the commutator end but it has the narrow third brush and latest brush holders. The Foreman in charge of the Armature winding (Mr. Gamble) has made an alteration to the winding of the armature which results in a definite saving in length - approximately .375" at each end. The same gauge of wire is used - the length of wire in a complete coil is reduced by approx: 6" with the modification. They claim that it is also easier to produce. EFC. tested the dynamon before it was sent away and the performance was satisfactory - (He is away today.) We consider the modification to the winding of the armature an improvement.
