We send herewith PD.41 showing our suggestion to increase the load capacity of the nose bearing for the bevel pinion, so that the increased load (1435 lbs. instead of 1300 lbs) thrown on to this bearing by the proposed three row thrust and radial bearing to PD.40 will not result in any loss of durability. Presumably the load capacity of the suggested nose bearing is double that of the present bearing, and therefore the increase of bearing capacity is much more than is necessary to deal with the increased load. However, we consider that the present bearing is overloaded (twice bearing rating in top gear) and accordingly we think that a reduction of the loading factor is desirable.
